This month I joined a group called Foodie Penpals. Its this super fun program where anyone, bloggers or food lovers, can sign up to send and receive fun foodie packages through the mail. Not only will you receive new and unusual foods in the mail but you will also make connections with new people around the country.
I had the pleasure of putting together a box for Hayley at Running Down the Runway. It was really fun to think of things that she might not have tried before and fit into her lifestyle.
With Foodie Penpals you receive a box from a different person than you sent to. I was pleased to receive my package from Stephanie Bischoff, an actress from Los Angeles who sadly doesn’t have a blog. She is, however, awesome, check out the stuff she sent me!
My box was full of fun and nourishing looking items. I love, love, love granola, and this gluten free vanilla version looks amazing! I can’t wait to stir it into my daily greek yogurt. There were two dark chocolate cherry cashew KIND bars. How could those words not sound amazing together?! I’ve had KIND bars before but never this flavor, so I’m excited to try them. There was also a Cherry Pie Larabar. These are super healthy treats full of real, nourishing ingredients. My mind is spinning trying to decide how to use the maple almond butter I received. Stephanie recommends it on a baked sweet potato (woah!)! The Pure organic cranberry orange bar arrived to my house squished and opened, but it smells so amazing I’m still considering eating it. Finally I received about a million packets of PerfectFit protein powder. This is a totally new product for me, but I look forward to browsing their website and finding out more ways to use it. I think it will come in especially handy after I have the baby and need something to help me get through the first few ravenous weeks of nursing. I’m always looking for something easy and satisfying to get me through those sleepless nights and this might be just the thing!
Stephanie was also thoughtful enough to include several awesome looking recipes as well as a handwritten card explaining her love for all of these things. It is so fun getting to know someone through food!
If you’re interested in joining Foodie Penpals, here’s some more information:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination! -You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.
If you’re interested in participating for July, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions. You must submit your information by July 4th as pairings will be emailed on July 5th!
