My Focus in the New Year

My Focus in the New Year

Whoa. Those holidays were intense, full of parties, laughter, and food. I don’t think I’ve had that much fun in a long time, but I’m definitely ready to settle down for a while. As part of the new year I’m teaming up with some other great bloggers to share weekly posts on staying happy and healthy. The focus is on having a positive outlook, encouraging healthy habits, and ME time.

This week we’re sharing New Year’s resolutions. While I’m not really into resolutions (does anyone actually keep them?) I do appreciate this time after the busyness of the holidays to refocus on what needs to be done. Here are the areas of my life I plan to focus on in the new year:

1. Make time to exercise. This can be as simple as doing a 30 day plank challenge (less than five minutes a day) or being more vigorous in my housework. I would love to find an exercise class to join (I really appreciate someone yelling at me to keep going), so if you have any recommendations send them my way. This week I’ve been getting up early to do a workout DVD and… it’s just not fun. Motivate me, people!

2. Get my house under control. I realize this will never actually be achieved. I want to stay committed, however, to being in organizational mode. I’ve even started an organization Pinboard, because obviously Pinterest is the way to make things happen. I have already trashed/donated a bunch of toys and am working on setting up a toy rotation system (above is a before picture, yikes). I also need to keep outgrown kids clothes in labeled totes, and finish painting rooms and trim so the house doesn’t look so mismatched.

3. Only eat food that I love. Life is too short to be wasting calories on things that aren’t going to make me feel great or make my mouth sing with flavor. I will be looking at what I’m eating and when to keep myself from mindless eating. I want to make every bite count.

4. Be filled with love. The Bible tells me that I can have everything in the world, but if I don’t have love I am nothing. I pray each day that God will fill me with love for my children, husband, family, friends, and enemies.

Great post, Lindsay! I’m also one who doesn’t make resolutions. They seem to just set me up for failure. I think your comment about filling yourself with God’s love is PERFECT. Loving others AND ourselves can be a huge blessing 🙂

I love your resolutions Lindsay! I totally agree, I don’t bother eating stuff that I don’t love. Same goes with clothes I buy and shoes I buy too, it’s really helped me trim down my closet and keep my wallet happy haha. I’ve been trying to organize my house too (although I feel like I just have too much stuff in a small space lol). Best of luck to you haha

Yes, I really need to have the same mentality about clothes. I usually end up getting to a point where I just need something to wear so I buy whatever I can find instead of what I really love.

I really started doing it when I moved to a smaller apartment because my closet is like 3×3 ft haha. It’s made a really big difference because I find I only cycle through like 2 weeks of clothes before I do laundry anyway =)

Um, did my kid contribute to this mess? I love your goals & think you can TOTALLY do them! Let me know whatever you discover for a morning workout- I need some more inspiration!

More like your kid had to put up with this mess. So far I’m doing a Billy Blanks dvd every morning. I love his work outs! The one I have is broken down into 10 minute increments so I can do as much or as little as I (or the kids) can handle.

When did my kid come over to play?? That looks like the kind of mess she would make, then ask you for some snacks and then leave with a big smile on her face!
I hear you about the eating things you love. My husband and I both had a bad day and I just gave up and said order a pizza. When the pizza arrived, I didn’t like it, so I had half a slice and decided to make some eggs. Should have just done that from the beginning.
