Despite how my Facebook feed makes it look, food isn’t the only thing I ever have on my mind.
I’ve been wanting to share with you a handful of things, some that I currently use and love and others that are on my wish list for now. Keep in mind, I’m a food blogger. There’s a reason I’m not telling you about fashion or beauty every day and that’s because I have no idea what I’m doing in that area. I just hope you’ll come along on this novice adventure with me. If you’re purely here for the food go ahead and subscribe to my RSS feed or by email and you’ll know when to come back. While some of these products contain affiliate links (meaning I get a very small percentage of any sale made through that link) I have not been compensated or otherwise coerced into promoting these products. They’re just things I love. Let’s go!
I recently received my first StitchFix. Actually, they just call it “getting your Fix,” which is totally appropriate because I feel like an addict already. Here’s what happens: you fill out a style profile with all your measurements and preferences, pay a “styling fee” and wait for 5 totally adorable wardrobe options to arrive at your door. A stylist hand picks items for you to try on in the comfort of your own home with all your other clothes and then you decide what you want to keep. Your styling fee is applied to anything you buy and you get a discount if you buy all five items. This is a great service for someone like me who 1.) Cannot go shopping without a child in tow and 2.) Lives in tiny town and would never be able to find such stylish pieces. While my first fix was a little off from my style (I only purchased one item that I loved) I think it will help narrow things down for my next fix.
I also recently received my first Birchbox. I know, I know, I’m probably the last one to the party on this one. But I think its going to be a great service for me. I’m a total beauty novice. I didn’t start seriously wearing make up until the tender age of 23 when I entered the professional world. Before that it was a little bit of cover up on the unnaturally dark skin under my eyes and, if I was “going out,” I had a tub of body glitter that would make an appearance (yikes). Oh, when I was in middle school I also had a cheap bottle of perfume that smelled like lemons. Obviously I need help. My first Birchbox contained a great dry shampoo (a mommy must have) as well as a shaving cream that makes my armpits smell like blueberries (Win? I really do love it). There were a few other things I haven’t tried yet, but the reason I love this service is because I would never, ever go out of my way to try new beauty products. I would just live in my own poorly beautified world and never get it figured out. I think this is going to help.
I am currently planning a birthday party for my son Casper. He will be two and is quite the wild man. His favorite cartoon is Diego, so we’re planning a safari themed party. I’ve been pleased to work with Paper Cow to create custom party accessories that will really make it fun. If you mention The Live-In Kitchen when placing your Paper Cow order of printable PDF products now through September 1st, 2013 you’ll get 40% off!
Of course I’m planning to make my own cake for the party. I’m having some emotions recently about artificial food dyes. I just ordered these India Tree Natural Decorating Colours to try. Have any of you had experience with them? Do they taste funny? Are they vibrant? These are the important questions in the world.
When we had our first baby my husband was dead set against a “traditional” diaper bag. We ended up with a Diaper Dude bag (I couldn’t find a link to the exact one, but this one is similar) which looks great but lacks a little in practicality. I’m currently lusting after this diaper bag from ikabags. Its a little more purse-like but still beautifully designed. We’ll see if I can talk my man into it.
Ok, seriously. How cute is this fox throw pillow? My kids are obsessed with foxes thanks to their favorite movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I know they would go crazy for this thing. Not into pillows? You can also get it as framed art or an iphone case.
Speaking of foxes, this bag. Beautiful. For real. I would just be using it to carry kid crap to the pool but why not put some beauty into our lives?
Want to see something else that’s adorable? I’m dying for a set of these Swedish wooden butter knives. I envision my kids helping frost Christmas cookies with them.
These cozy classics are adorable, although I imagine some of the plot gets lost in the simple pages. Its probably for the best though. I just want my sister in law to go ahead and start having kids so I get get her the copy of Pride and Prejudice. I’d probably buy her this one too.
I seriously hope you’re making your own vanilla extract. Not only does it taste great, it saves money and you get the satisfaction of seeing all those tiny vanilla beans in your food. I always buy my beans from Olive Nation. They offer a great price and quality, plus their beans ship free every day! They’ve been generous enough to offer a 15% discount to readers of The Live-In Kitchen if you enter “live15” at checkout!
Well that’s it for now. What are you loving lately? I want to know!
