Happy Sunday! I’ve tried to spend the weekend relaxing and focusing on self care because I feel like I’ve been going a million miles an hour from dawn to dusk lately. Self care for me looks like some solo outdoors time, listening to a podcast, forcing myself not to work, and eating what I want instead of what I “should” eat, whether that be leftovers, health food, or cooking rather than eating out.
Of course the opposite of all those self care practices are important and good in their own time, but balance is also important. I always have things I’m working on for the blog and beyond that are exciting and I want to get to RIGHT NOW, but I don’t want to look back on my life wondering where my time went, I want to live now.
We don’t have anything too exciting planned for the upcoming weeks. We’re finally done with swimming lessons which will take one thing off our plate, so that feels good. Now it’s time to plan for Spring activities and summer school though! I always struggle with the balance of how much the kids love activities and how difficult it is to do it all for them.
We don’t really do anything special for St. Patrick’s Day around here, but if you are I’d love to know what it is! Here’s what’s been on my mind lately:
1. The International Home and Housewares Show
A couple weeks ago I went to this show in Chicago and it was so much fun! I was there for the blog, but it’s really just like window shopping ALL the newest, most exciting products. My personal favs were the new Le Creuset New Calm Collection (affiliate link to my favorite favorite SEA SALT), pretty much everything by Fusion Brands, and Bee’s Wrap.
2. Dairy Free
I shared a story on Instagram about this the other day, but it was the day Instagram was totally glitching out so I’m not sure it worked. We’re going to try a dairy free diet for a week or two to see if it helps clear up some of my son’s allergy symptoms, which means I’ll basically be eating vegan most of the time. I’m leaning hard on my vegan Pinterest board for inspiration as I plan this all out.
3. Adorable Easter Things
4. TV Time
I was so disappointed to find out Crashing was cancelled, but at least they ended it in a reasonable manner. I was afraid it was going to feel totally unfinished. I tried to watch HBO’s Carnivale and had to force myself to get through the whole first season before giving up. I just hate not knowing what happens, even if it’s no that interesting! We’re just getting back into this season of The Walking Dead and it’s feeling a little… meh.
5. Beauty
I’m so not one to get into beauty routines, makeup, etc. However, I decided I’m too young to look so old (thanks years of lifeguarding) so I bought a deep wrinkle cream and despite my skepticism I think it’s actually working! Now I want to know what you use for beauty, specifically deep wrinkles, giant pores, and stained teeth. I also bought the Target version of the Crest teeth whitening strips and it’s hard to tell if they’re working. They’re super gross to wear and they make my teeth sensitive to cold, so if I don’t see a huge improvement I’m definitely not going to keep it up. I’d love to hear other options though!
