Sidewalk chalk, a great way to give kids jeans that belong in the 80’s without even trying.
Jeron and I celebrated our 9th anniversary last week by going out to eat. We went to Piggy’s, a local place we haven’t been to much but will certainly be visiting again. I had lacquered salmon and mashed potatoes that I’ve been longing for ever since. The salmon was lacquered in a Korean BBQ sauce that I need to learn how to make immediately. I also had my first mojito in blackberry form. I completely fell in love despite its enormous size and the impossibility of sipping it through a straw because all the little blackberry blobs would clog it up. Jeron ordered a Manhattan when he meant to order an old fashioned, which just goes to prove that we’re not alcoholics, Mom.
I spent Memorial Day evening with some girlfriends over Mexican food. The company was great but the food was not. I ordered veggie fajitas, which were billed on the menu as a mixture of onions, peppers, and tomatoes. I received onions, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower. Not exactly what I signed up for, which was disappointing. I was still pretty into it though.
We have been going through insane amounts of sunscreen already. My kids are sooo white. It’s not like I have a problem with them becoming tan but it’s really hard to jump from milky white to luscious brown in an afternoon. My friend Melissa brought her kids to town from California last week and I think they brought the sunshine with them. Now that there are things like rain and sun the mosquitos have arrived. Lola and I are incredibly allergic and while I’ve learned some tricks for dealing with it, she doesn’t yet have the self-control to keep the bites from completely turning on her. I am now open to suggestions for places to live without mosquitos because this just seems cruel to keep her here.
As far as tv goes, I’ve been really enjoying Fargo still. Last week’s episode was insane to the point where I felt like it should be the last episode or something, but there are still a few left! I haven’t watched this week’s yet, so don’t spoiler me! I’m sad that Mad Men is done again until 2015, it feels like it just got started! Other than that I’ve still been getting my trashy tv fix through Desperate Housewives on Netflix. I’m also super excited for the new season of Orange is the New Black to come out next week!

I wanted to remind everyone that all proceeds from my ebook, How to Become a Better Home Cook, are going towards my dad’s online benefit. I so appreciate everyone who has donated or offered their prayers so far!
What have you been up to?

Your shout out to your mom about your non-alcoholism was perfect. I could have said that to my own mom. Love it.
