Last week was Jeron’s birthday which meant we got to eat all our favorite things. Penne with Vodka Sauce and Boston Cream Pie were two big hits from the day. We also went out to breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants and he went for a motorcycle ride which didn’t give me a heart attack at all (errrr).
I had like an hour to kill last week and was like, “Why don’t I take the kids outside? Nothing bad can come of that.” I figured they would play on the swing set for a bit, maybe do some sidewalk chalk, and then we would all come inside while I made dinner. I told them they could not play in the sandbox (too much to clean up), so instead Strummer hid in the yard, dug a hole, and proceeded to dump dirt all over his head. His beautiful little blonde head looked like he had dark roots and there was dirt in his diaper. In his diaper! I would share a picture, but it doesn’t even do it justice. I’ve never seen this level of dirty on a child. The worst part was I had to go inside and make dinner but didn’t have enough time to clean him up so I had to make all the kids stay outside, eat outside, and then give them baths. Let me tell you that bath water was black. Gross.
We silently slipped back into homeschool this week. There was a bunch of stuff I wanted to get done around the house before we started but the kids were bored and I was like, “Here do this coloring sheet” and now we’re back to school every day apparently. That’s the thing about homeschool, it doesn’t need to be this big to-do and break in routine, we can just do a little bit now and add more as it comes along. My organizational skills regarding this matter are a constant work in progress (with a big help from Pinterest).
We finally made it back to the library after a few weeks off. I packed a lunch and we enjoyed it at the park across the street while we read our new books. Mini Babybel cheeses, peanut butter sandwiches, raspberries, and raisins all traveled well. The kids really love playing with the wax from the cheese when they’re done, it usually turns into a talking mouth. Having sticks and leaves to add to the fun, and new books to act out, they were in seventh heaven. I’m really going to miss this nice weather once it starts cooling off!
We’ve been cranking through tons of True Blood hoping to catch up in time for the series finale on Sunday. I don’t know if we’re going to make it. It’s not a huge deal, we just don’t want to accidentally have the ending ruined for us when we’re this close. Any suggestions on what we should binge watch next? I really want to give The Leftovers or Boardwalk Empire, but Jeron is only interested in shows that are completely finished and require no waiting. Pssshh. I’ve been wanting to read all the books lately which is ridiculous because reading is very near the bottom on my list of priorities right now. I still need to finish Naked and I’d like to go back through Parenting by the Book
and Shepherding a Child’s Heart
now that my kids are a little bit older. These Little Free Libraries have been popping up all over near my house lately and I found Garlic and Sapphires
and this H G Wells duo
yesterday so now I’m dying to read those.
Babybel provided me with cheese and some other goodies to try but did not compensate me for mentioning them in this post. All opinions are my own.

I remember the days of filthy little ones! 😉 Crazy, but I miss those days! And I seriously love the puzzle piece sandwich! Too cute!
