The weather has been so summer-like lately! We’ve been enjoying bike rides, hikes, and eating on the deck. I have to admit I’ve also been enjoying just sending the kids out to play while I stay inside and catch up on housework or read a book. The kids sleep so incredibly well after a day in the sun. We’ve returned briefly to frigid temperatures this week and it might be the worst thing ever.
With the warm weather and the retreat of my morning sickness, we’ve been going through so much fruit! I even made a special trip to one of the “good” grocery stores in town to pick up a pineapple and cantaloupe this week and you’d better bet it was worth it. I’m also still hoarding Halos, have started putting strawberries and organic blueberries (only fifty cents more than non-organic!) in my yogurt, and I’m back on the avocado train! Now I just need to replenish my supply of about ten ripe avocados at any given time and we’ll be good. This is a weeks long process, folks.
Casper had a birthday last week! We had a pigeon themed party and he received Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gifts. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but he had the most fun ever. He kept saying, “It’s my birthday, and I’m deciding all the things!” I love that kid. And he drives me crazy. I made this cake with this frosting and it was ah-mazing. I didn’t put chocolate chips in the frosting on the outside and I colored it to look like a pigeon. I used real food dye against my greatest convictions, but isn’t it preeeeetty?? Strummer turned into an all out monster every day we ate that cake and I feel like a hippie psycho blaming the food dyes, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it was. The cake itself was more like a brownie, and I kind of wish I had let it sit out at room temperature a little longer to soften up before serving. It was pretty firm, but like I said, delicious. If you’re wondering what the beak is, it’s a single cupcake cut in half and frosted on all sides, which as it turns out, is almost impossible to do. If you’re wondering if I’m available to decorate a cake for you or your child’s birthday, the answer is no, I’m obviously terrible at it. Also I had to buy a whole package of (generic) Oreos just to make the eye (also greatly against my convictions). But we’re still alive.
Before I got pregnant I was going through this phase where I hated wine. It gave me a headache, made me dizzy, and just wasn’t my jam (they should have used the grapes to make jam). Now that I’m pregnant I would kill for a glass of wine. Is this like one of those things where I’m craving cookies which is my awful American body’s way of saying I need like a turkey sandwich or some other real and healthy food? Should I be eating fish because I want wine? I don’t know.
I got to hear the baby’s heartbeat yesterday! It took the midwife a really long time to find it, and she didn’t find it where she was expecting. So that was weird/scary. She ended up finding the heartbeat pretty high in my belly, which, what does that even mean? I’m assuming that the previous three baby monsters have really set up shop in there and it’s all fully stretched and decorated. Aren’t you glad we’re picturing my uterus with a tree trunk coffee table in it?
Have you heard about the Full House spinoff? I have several major problems with this. First of all, let’s have an original idea, just once and stop trying to reboot everything that happened in the 90’s. Second, how DEPRESSING is the premise?! DJ not only lost her mom at a young age, but now her husband dies while she has two kids and is pregnant with their third? I can’t even handle it. Plus how awkward are modern day Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen going to be in that setting??
Jeron and I have been cruising through Bloodline on Netflix and I’m loving it. I’m hoping to finish it off tonight, but it’s always sad to end a series (or season). What are we going to do now? We’ve also been watching Mad Men, which I think is great. There’s always a little something in every episode where you realize this moment is going to be absolutely iconic. Betty and Glen? Oooohmygoshawkward. I might also have to admit we watched WolfCop? Not recommended. Although it’s really all campy fun with the exception of like two scenes which were so over-the-top-ridiculous-disgusting that I questioned a number of life choices.
What have you been up to? What have you been eating?! I’m eating all the foods now and want to eat all your favorites.

I wasn’t able to get a picture of the inside, it disappeared too fast! But it was fantastic.
