Heeeey-o!
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a life update. Things have been pretty busy around here. Homeschool has been plugging along (we’re about half way through 1st grade). There was a span of time where I was starting to panic about what we would do about curriculum for the next school year, but after doing a lot of research I decided to just hold off and see where Lola is at when the time comes.
I continue to love the freedom of homeschool. We try to get our lessons out of the way before lunch, and it usually doesn’t take more than an hour or two total. I’m using the spiral notebook method to give Lola some scope and choice within her school day and she loves it. I love that I can add assignments like “Hug Mom” or “Get Ice Cream” (it was the first warmish day of the year).
Lola has also been taking piano lessons which are going amazing. She really caught on fast and is now better than me, who can pluck out a song but has never taken an actual lesson.
We’ve also been dealing with the world of “wobbly” teeth. We discovered Lola had two loose teeth on the bottom the day of the Super Bowl. One of them fell out that night, the other has stuck around ever since. A few days ago it turned black – BLACK! – so we knew it had to come out. Lots of tears and screaming later and the tooth fairy finally came. Anyone have any suggestions for removing loose teeth without trauma? We’re all scarred for life.
The kids’ current favorite snack is microwaved popcorn. I make it from scratch and it seriously couldn’t be easier. I’ll try share the recipe soon.
We bought a king sized bed! I literally could not be more excited. Except now I need to buy a frame, sheets, a comforter, the whole thing. I want to hear all your suggestions about where to buy and how we should decorate our bedroom, because doesn’t this call for a fresh coat of paint as well? I’m thinking a navy/gray/yellow theme.
It is finally warm enough to walk/run outside! I’ve been getting my walk on while listening to The Chopped Podcast. You guys, anyone can start a podcast but not everyone could be as natural as Marly. She has this velvety voice and upbeat personality that makes her such a pleasure to listen to. I don’t know how interesting this podcast would be for non-food bloggers, but I’m loving it!
We haven’t talked about tv in a long time! I’m loving this half season of The Walking Dead. The last half left a very bad taste in my mouth but it’s finally getting interesting. I recently finished reading Compendium Two, so I’m now further in the comics than the show. It’s kind of interesting to see what changes they make and what they keep the same. And I’m really looking forward to some of the possibilities of what’s next. Have you seen Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix yet? It’s Tina Fey produced, which I think is super obvious when you watch it. It’s not my favorite thing out there (yet at least) but it’s something nice and easy to watch and it does have me laughing. Community is back! I love Community (except for that season where Dan Harmon left the show) and am happy to see it has a new home on Yahoo Screen. We have an Apple TV so it’s super easy to watch too! But will someone please tell me what the heck Yahoo Screen is? And how they make money? I can’t figure it out at all. p.s. I miss Chevy Chase and Donald Glover.
I’m super excited to share with you that I participated in the Garden Kitchen Table Virtual Summit. There are tons of amazing speakers and it’s free! So go sign up today, the summit starts tomorrow (March 20)!
We’ve dubbed these three The Best Friends Gang. What have you been up to lately?
