General Mills and the Betty Crocker Test Kitchens

    Betty Crocker Test Kitchens

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I spent Tuesday at General Mills world headquarters.

A handful of other bloggers and I had a great time touring the photography studio, prop room, archives, and test kitchens. At the end of it all we were set loose in the kitchen to come up with some creative uses for cereal, all leading up to National Cereal Lover’s Week next week!

Here’s a little taste of what I experienced on Tuesday.

The actual photo studio is top secret, so I couldn’t take any pictures. I did get some pictures of the prop room(s) though, and they were insane!

    White bowls

Do you need a white dish? Choose from one of these, or from one of three similar walls.

    Colorful little bowls

You also need a tiny bowl? They’ve got you covered.

After our tour we were served an incredible lunch featuring some of the cereal dishes General Mills created in conjunction with a number of celebrity chefs.

    Cocoa puffs carbonara

    There was Cocoa Puff Carbonara.

    Chex Chilaquiles

Golden Grahams Fried Chicken with Hot Honey Drizzle

Golden Grahams Fried Chicken with Hot Honey Drizzle is the way chicken was always meant to be.

    Lucky Charms Martini

    Lucky Charms martinis? Delicious.

Potato Cakes coated in Fiber One, Wheaties, and Rice Chex

I had really only thought about using cereal for sweet recipes before. It was interesting to “think outside the box” and try to incorporate savory flavors. I ended up making a potato and bean patty coated in crushed Fiber One, Rice Chex, and Wheaties and served on top of a bed of roasted vegetables. To top it off I drizzled it in barbecue sauce. I’m definitely going to have to make this again.

    Bloggers

Thank you to Kate Sommers and General Mills for hosting me for the day! Make sure you check out Hello, Cereal Lovers and celebrate National Cereal Lovers Week with your favorite bowl of cereal!

We lived in Minneapolis from 1982 to ’87. Shortly before we left Minnesota, they had stopped doing tours of the Betty Crocker kitchens. I was so surprised to see that they are doing tours again! I’ll have to make a trip out there. How Fun!
