In a 2 quart saucepan, bring 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to a boil, stirring frequently until dissolved. Remove from the heat, add the lemon zest, and allow to cool to room temperature.
Meanwhile, add strawberries to a food processor and blend until liquified.
Strain sugar syrup and strawberry puree into a large pitcher. Add lemon juice and cold water. Stir, chill, and serve.
