About

Welcome to The Live-In Kitchen! I'm Lindsay, a Wisconsin girl with a love for feel good food. I started The Live-In Kitchen in 2011, and since then it has grown into a resource for approachable, easily customizable recipes so you can enjoy feeding the people you love.

Becoming a vegetarian

I became a flexible vegetarian in 2012. At that time I took on the challenge of learning how to create delicious, satisfying meals for my family that did not include meat. The result was an abundance of time tested, well loved recipes that I couldn't wait to share with my audience!

All new recipes since that time are meatless, but several non-vegetarian recipes remain in the archives. There are also a number of vegan recipes, because many vegetarian meals also happen to be vegan, and vegan food is delicious!

Does this sound familiar?

I don't know what to cook if I'm not cooking with meat.

Working with a limited ingredient list has opened up a whole world of creativity for me. It is possible to cook a variety of mentally and physically satisfying meals without cooking with meat. If you're just getting started with a vegetarian lifestyle I encourage you to check out my post on how to transition to vegetarian.

My kids won't eat a meal that doesn't have meat in it.

What you see on the blog are real life meals that I'm serving to my family, including my 4 children. While everyone's tastes are different, I encourage you to give these approachable recipes a try.

We have so many different dietary needs in our family. What can I cook to please everyone?

With every recipe I give a few customization options, including how to make it vegan or gluten-free if possible. Many of these recipes can easily be served with meat alongside or added in for anyone in your circle who prefers to have meat on their plate.

Education

I received a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in English and Art from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It was during this time that I began learning to cook and experimenting in the kitchen.

After college I began working as a video editor for a home shopping network, where I continued to hone both my creative and culinary skills thanks to the diverse talent working at the company.

Since starting my blog, I have attended numerous conferences and taken several courses to stay on top of trends and improve my technical skills.

Beyond the blog

Outside of blogging, I teach bloggers how to edit recipe videos on my YouTube channel through my food media company Wild Flour Media. I also accept freelance clients for video production, editing, and photography.

I have enjoyed teaching several cooking classes through The People's Food Co-op of La Crosse and a couple food photography and blogging classes around town.

My family

Blogging gives me the opportunity to be home with my husband and four kids, and even though I'm always cooking for my large family, they're all meat eaters. As a result, you'll find several vegetarian or vegan meals and desserts designed with a single person in mind. I am aware that many who abstain from meat are doing it alone, so hopefully everyone can find some inspiration here!

When I'm not covering something in cheese you can find me playing an instrument, creating art, binging through tv shows, or hiking the bluffs around my house.
