My kids love popsicles and I can't blame them. Icy treats are so great for hot summer days. They help cool you down and keep you hydrated.

I can't bring myself to buy ordinary popsicles because they're basically just sugar water, but these homemade frozen yogurt popsicles are filled with things you can feel good about like Greek yogurt, honey, and fresh cherries.

These Cherry Frozen Yogurt Bars are a healthy, creamy, dessert/breakfast in popsicle form. They are naturally sweetened with honey and fruit, plus they make enough to stash in the freezer for enjoying all week.

Ingredients

  • Cherries
  • Lemon juice
  • Greek yogurt
  • Honey

How to make cherry frozen yogurt bars

  1. Puree 2 cups pitted cherries in a food processor.
  2. Push the puree through a fine mesh strainer into a large glass measuring cup.
  3. Add the lemon juice to the cherry juice and stir to combine.
  4. In a large glass measuring cup or bowl, stir together yogurt and honey.
  5. Add about half the yogurt mixture to the cherry juice and stir to combine.
  6. Pour a small amount of the cherry mixture into 10 popsicle molds.
  7. Divide the honey yogurt evenly amongst the molds, then top with the remaining cherry mixture, being sure to leave a small space at the top.
  8. Push one or two cherry halves into each popsicle mold, cover, and insert wooden sticks.
  9. Allow to freeze until firm, about 4 hours.

Top Tips

How to remove frozen yogurt bars from molds

Sometimes the frozen popsicle will stick to the inside of the mold. To get it out easily, run warm water on the outside of the mold just until it loosens enough to pull the popsicle out.

How to pit cherries

Pitting cherries can be a messy job because the juice can stain clothes and surfaces. The most basic way to remove the pit is to cut the cherry in half around the pit, pull it apart, and pry the pit out.

It is much easier if you have a cherry pitter (affiliate link). For this, simply place the cherry in the pitter, press, and the pit will shoot out the end. I recommend having a bowl or something to catch the pits in, and be aware that it may splash a little juice.

The best popsicle molds for homemade yogurt popsicles

I used this classic popsicle mold to make my popsicles. I've had a few different popsicle molds over the years but I like these best because they're bigger, prettier, and super easy!

Tips for customizing frozen yogurt bars

  • Use whatever juicy, ripe fruit you have on hand such as strawberries, plums, or raspberries
  • Stir all of the cherry puree into the yogurt for an entirely pinky/purple popsicle
  • Fill the popsicles molds just a little less and add a sprinkle of granola before putting the cover on and sticks in
  • Use softened vanilla ice cream in place of yogurt for a decidedly less healthy treat
  • Skip the popsicle molds and enjoy the cherry puree swirled into yogurt bowls with a sprinkle of granola, nuts, seeds, or your other favorite topping
