Homemade Taco Seasoning is the best way to get the perfect amount of spice!
How much processed food do you eat on a regular basis?
While I think I do a pretty good job filling my grocery cart with fresh fruits, vegetables, and other unprocessed ingredients, we’re still far from a totally unprocessed diet. Things like bread, cereal, mustard, and yogurt still make their way into our house via packaging. I can still make fairly healthy choices in packaged food, but I would love to be able to control every ingredient that goes into our bodies.
While it is perhaps unrealistic to try and make everything in your pantry homemade, it is reasonable to try making one swap a week. This homemade taco seasoning is a great swap to make because it won’t break the bank or eat up a lot of your time. Invest in some bulk spices, spend five minutes putting them together, and keep a jar of this seasoning in your cupboard for whenever you may need it. It literally tastes just like a taco seasoning packet but you’re saving yourself all the questionable ingredients and preservatives.
My question is, if I can make something that tastes the same (or better) at home, what are companies doing adding all these strange and unpronounceable ingredients? Are they really necessary for shelf life? And should we as consumers be demanding these products? I’ll try share some more recipes in the coming weeks that will put this taco seasoning to good use!
