Snacktime! Let me share with you an absolutely addictive, warm, easy snack to make in your air fryer.

Gnocchi can usually be found as a main dish boiled and tossed with sauce, similar to pasta. Did you know these little potato pillows can also be fried until they're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside? It's a real treat!

Not only is the texture of this snack the best, but the flavor is out of this world too! They smell like they came out of a restaurant with their garlic parmesan flavor.

Ingredients

  • Shelf stable gnocchi
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic powder
  • Coarse kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
Ingredients used to make air fryer gnocchi.

How to make air fryer gnocchi

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 390ºF.
  2. In a large bowl, toss gnocchi with the remaining ingredients until fully coated.
  3. Once hot, add the gnocchi to the air fryer and cook for 13 minutes, shaking the basket once or twice to prevent sticking and allow them to cook evenly.
  4. Remove from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Top tips

The best air fryer for making snacks

My Ninja Foodi is the perfect size for making air fryer snacks such as this one, but any air fryer will work great. The basket on mine always feels a little small, but was just the right size to fit one package of gnocchi.

How to serve air fryer gnocchi

  • As an appetizer - These would be so cute and perfect on a little kabob with mozzarella pearls, a cherry tomato, and a basil leaf. You could also line them up on a platter of your favorite dipping sauce and place a toothpick in each one.
  • As a snack - These are as poppable as a bag of potato chips, so consider switching up the seasoning and enjoying as a snack. I paired them with a combination of pesto and ranch for these photos, but they'd also be delicious with marinara, regular pesto or ranch, hot sauce, bbq sauce, or beetroot hummus.
  • As an add-on to your meal - Toss a few into your minestrone or tomato soup, add to salads as an alternative to croutons, or serve alongside soft scrambled eggs for a hearty breakfast.

How to store crispy gnocchi

Air fryer gnocchi is best enjoyed shortly after cooking, but can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave, or put it back in the air fryer to make it crisp again.

Tips for customizing air fryer gnocchi

  • Skip the cheese and check your gnocchi ingredients to make this dairy free and vegan
  • Choose a gluten free gnocchi to make this gluten free
  • Swap the garlic powder for your favorite seasonings such as Italian, garam masala, or za'atar, adjusting the quantity to taste
  • Serve with a ball of burrata or your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara or bbq sauce
  • Use whatever gnocchi you have on hand, such as cauliflower or sweet potato

FAQ

Do I need to boil gnocchi before cooking it in the air fryer?

No, you do not need to boil the gnocchi before cooking it in the air fryer. Simply toss the gnocchi with the oil and seasoning, then air fry until crisp.

Can I use fresh or frozen gnocchi?

This recipe was tested using shelf stable gnocchi. Fresh and frozen gnocchi should also work, but you may need to adjust the time more or less depending on what you're using, so be sure to keep an eye on things to prevent burning.

Can you reheat air fryer gnocchi?

Yes, but the texture won't be quite the same unless you air fry it again. This recipe is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside after cooking, but the texture will change slightly after refrigerating and reheating.

Is parmesan cheese vegetarian?

Not all parmesan cheese is vegetarian. If this is important to you, look for a parmesan made with vegetable rennet instead of animal rennet.
