This greyhound cocktail is made with fresh grapefruit juice, honey syrup, vodka, and club soda. Give it a pretty sugar rim and serve as a New Year’s Eve cocktail or enjoy this naturally sweetened drink at a baby or bridal shower!

If you think a drink made from grapefruit, vodka, and soda sounds good, you’re in for a treat with this greyhound cocktail!

I could see this being a popular drink at so many occasions like a baby shower, bridal shower, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, or even a Pretty in Pink party! I’m all about easy cocktails, and this one fits right in with just five ingredients and a few minutes to mix together.

This recipe uses a cocktail shaker (affiliate link to one similar to mine), but I won’t hold it against you if you just stir it in the glass. I also don’t like having a lot of gadgets around so I squeezed my grapefruit juice by hand, but a reamer or juicer might be helpful if making a lot of drinks.

What’s in a sparkling greyhound cocktail?

A greyhound cocktail is generally made with grapefruit juice and vodka or gin. I’ve made mine with vodka, sweetened it with honey syrup, topped it off with club soda, and added a sprig of thyme as garnish.

ingredients for a fizzy greyhound cocktail

I love sweetening cocktails with honey rather than sugar. Of course using a sugar rim removes any benefits of this, but it’s so pretty and easily omitted or wiped off if you don’t want the real sugar.

How to make a sparkling greyhound drink

    • Make your honey syrup if you haven’t already (I use my electric kettle to heat the water in seconds)
    • Juice your grapefruit
    • Dip the rim of your glass in grapefruit juice, then into turbinado sugar
    • Pour grapefruit juice, vodka, and honey syrup into a shaker with ice, cover, and shake
    • Pour over ice in a rocks glass
    • Top with club soda
    • Garnish with fresh thyme
    • a hand squeezing juice from a grapefruit into a small bowl
    • a hand pouring grapefruit juice and vodka from a shaker into a glass rimmed with sugar

Tips for making the best grapefruit vodka drinks

    • Strain your grapefruit juice through a fine mesh strainer before adding to the mix to remove any pulp
    • Use a high quality vodka such as Ketel One, Grey Goose, Titos, or New Amsterdam.
    • Always use freshly opened club soda. If you’re only making one drink, consider buying the tiny bottles of club soda.
    • Be sure to make the honey syrup rather than using straight honey or it won’t mix properly.

Tips for customizing your greyhound cocktail

    • Swap the vodka for gin
    • Use simple syrup in place of the honey syrup
    • Skip the sugar rim or swap it for sprinkles or salt
    • Swap the club soda for pamplemousse flavored La Croix
    • Leave out the vodka for a refreshing mocktail
