As a food blogger, the pressure can be on to create the next crazy, over the top recipe trend. As fun (and time consuming) as that is, I still just love the classics.
There’s nothing wrong with sharing a classic recipe, right? There’s a reason we call them classics.
They’re easy for home cooks/bartenders to make, popular amongst a crowd, and in this particular case you only need three ingredients! Are you ready to make the perfect gin and tonic?

How to make the best gin and tonic
My husband always makes the best gin and tonic, so I tried to write the recipe to match his loose style. The ratio essentially comes out to 1:3 (that is, one part gin, three parts tonic), but you’ll have a little wiggle room depending on how much ice you use and what glassware you own.
We love serving this cocktail in a lowball glass, but a highball glass will work just as well, assuming you keep your gin to tonic ratio the same. Only have a wine glass? No problem, that will work too.
It all starts with the ice cubes. I like 4-5 ice cubes in there for optimal chill.
Assuming you’re making this cocktail for yourself, if you end up pouring too much tonic in your glass, just take a few sips to make room for adding more gin. We usually just fill the glass a quarter of the way with gin and then top off with tonic for the best ratio no matter the glassware.
Because of the simple nature of this drink, quality ingredients are very important. Choose a quality gin, such as Bombay Sapphire, and buy the tiny bottles of tonic water so you can open them fresh and get plenty of carbonation.
Real limes are a must, and after squeezing a wedge into your drink feel free to drop it in or add a fresh one to the rim of the glass.

- Swap club soda for the tonic water to make it carb free

Gin and Tonic
- 1 ½ ounces Gin
- Tonic water, roughly 5 ounces
- ⅛ Lime
- Place 4-5 ice cubes in a lowball glass. Add gin, then top with tonic water. Squeeze a lime wedge over the top and drop it in the glass, or add a fresh one to the rim of the glass for garnish.
