Do you want dessert or a cocktail? How about both?
This mudslide cocktail has a rich, creamy taste loaded with chocolate and coffee flavors. It's the perfect after dinner drink, or any time you want a special, chocolatey treat.
What is a mudslide cocktail?
A mudslide is made from a combination of vodka, coffee liqueur (Kahlua), Irish cream (Bailey's), and heavy cream. It's kind of like a milkshake, and easy to turn into a frozen milkshake with the addition of ice cream. Kahlua and Bailey's aren't ingredients I use often, so I like to use mini bottles of liquor for specialty cocktails like this to make sure I'm getting everything as fresh as possible.

How to drizzle chocolate syrup in a glass
It can be difficult to get the perfect swirl in your glassware of choice. I recommend choosing a bottle of chocolate syrup with a squeeze top rather than a jar you would need to use with a spoon.
Open the chocolate syrup bottle and hold it upside down without squeezing, allowing gravity to slowly bring the syrup out of the bottle. Starting at the bottom of the glass, add the chocolate syrup, turning the glass and working your way up the sides in a spiral shape.
If you have another person on hand to hold the glass while you hold the chocolate, this may be an easier option than doing it yourself.

How to store
This cocktail is best enjoyed right after making, but if you want to make a big batch for a party, simply mix it up in a big pitcher (without ice) and refrigerate until ready to serve. Make sure to give it a stir before pouring.
Tips for customizing a mudslide
- Make it a frozen mudslide milkshake by blending the drink with ice and vanilla ice cream in a blender
- Swap the vodka for flavored vodka or brandy
- Top with whipped cream
- Make it a mocktail by leaving out all the alcohol and instead using heavy cream, coffee, and chocolate syrup

FAQ
The type of glass you use for this recipe isn't super important, but if you want to be able to do the chocolate drizzle on the inside, make sure it has a shape you can reach into. I used a shorter, wider glass, similar to a rocks glass, but a coupe glass (or hurricane glass if you're making a double) would also work.
It is difficult to calculate the amount of alcohol in a cocktail that is measured in parts rather than ounces. This allows you to make it whatever size you want, but you can see how it doesn't allow you to calculate calories or alcohol. A normal mudslide usually comes out to 15%-29% alcohol by volume.
I would not recommend substituting milk for the heavy cream in this recipe because it would come out very thin. However, if you're ok with the change in taste and texture it will mix in just fine.
