a vegas bomb drink in a glass

A vegas bomb is a fun drink to make at home with friends. Made with Crown Royal, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and energy drink, it’s a cocktail that will keep the party going all night long!

If you haven’t enjoyed a night with friends in a while, or if you’re just getting older, it might be harder to stay awake and energized than you remember. Thankfully, there’s a cocktail for that!

This vegas bomb recipe (sometimes called a vegas bomb shot) is a delicious eye opener that will help you keep the party going late into the night. I tend to be very sensitive to caffeine, so I would probably enjoy this on a holiday afternoon or any time I really wanted to have a lot of energy.

It’s perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties, college students, or anyone who needs a little pick me up to get through the party.

    What is a vegas bomb?

A vegas bomb is a style of cocktail made with a royal flush shot, which consists of (affiliate link) Crown Royal whiskey, peach schnapps, and cranberry juice, dropped into an energy drink. It likely gets its name from the all-night party scene in Las Vegas.

It’s called a “bomb” because you’re dropping the shot glass into the larger glass and getting a big splash, the same way you’d get an Irish car bomb or Jåger bomb.

What makes this vegas bomb special?

While most vegas bomb recipes use Red Bull energy drink, I wanted to try something a little more natural and wholesome (which is ridiculous in a cocktail, I know). I chose a green tea/stevia based zero calorie energy drink, but you could choose whatever suits your diet.

I also chose a cranberry juice blend that’s sweetened with other fruit juices instead of processed sugar. It paired well with the other ingredients and wasn’t as tart as other cranberry juices.

    Vegas bomb ingredients

    • Crown Royal
    • Cranberry juice
    • Peach Schnapps
    • Energy drink

How to make a vegas bomb drink

    • Add Crown Royal to a shot glass and set aside.
    • Pour cranberry juice, peach schnapps, and the energy drink into a tall pint glass. You may not need all of the energy drink.
    • Drop the shot glass into the energy drink and enjoy quickly.

    Top tips and questions

What is the best glassware to use for a vegas bomb?

I like using thick, heavy glassware for this cocktail. I chose a tall pint glass with a wide mouth for my energy drink, and a short, thick shot glass for the shot.

My shot glass only holds about 1.5 ounces, but if you wanted to use more alcohol you could choose a larger shot glass and scale up the shot ingredients accordingly.

How do I drop the shot into the glass?

I recommend dropping your shot from the rim of the glass and not much higher since you’re technically dropping a glass into a glass and don’t want it to break. Simply hold the shot just above the energy drink and let it go.

Does this drink make a mess?

There can be a pretty good splash when you drop the shot into the tall glass, so keep that in mind when making it. You’ll want to make a vegas bomb either outside or on an easy to clean countertop.

How to drink a vegas bomb

This drink is intended to be enjoyed quickly rather than sipped slowly. It’s the best way to make sure your energy drink stays fizzy and you get all the desired caffeine/alcohol in one go.

Remember you dropped a heavy shot glass into the larger glass when you go to take a sip so you don’t hit yourself in the face with it! Also, be sure to always drink responsibly and have a designated driver or ride share set up if traveling.

Tips for customizing a vegas bomb

    • If you have a large enough shot glass, pour the Crown Royal, cranberry juice, and peach schnapps into it instead of separating them as stated in the recipe
    • Add a splash of Malibu rum
    • Skip the “bomb” and just add the shot ingredients to the energy drink
    • Use Red Bull or your other favorite energy drink
    • If you prefer everything ice cold, shake your shot ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker before adding to the shot glass and dropping in the energy drink
    • Feel free to eyeball the liquor proportions or adjust them to suit your taste and tolerance
    • Swap the peach schnapps for butterscotch schnapps
    • If you don’t do caffeine, try a flavored carbonated water instead of the energy drink

Tips for customizing a vegas bomb

    • If your shot glass is large enough, use it to hold the Crown Royal, cranberry juice, and peach schnapps instead of mixing some of them in the large glass
    • Add a splash of malibu rum
    • Skip the “bomb” and just add the shot ingredients to the energy drink
    • Use Red Bull or your other favorite energy drink
